In April 2009, deaf people from as far as MD, KY, TN, VA, and FL along with the Carolinians got together at Mason-Dixon Park for the 1st Annual Deaf Spring Fling event. 115 people attended the event and we all had a great time. We received many positive notes from everyone who came with several constructive feedbacks that we are looking forward to improve and do better! Also, we would like to thank last year sponsors whom we would have not done without Purple, ZVRS, Mt. Olive Pickle, Bill Ellis BBQ, and Parker's BBQ.
NC Deaf Spring Fling is simply a camping out weekend with some activities and great foods. Although North Carolina Deaf Bikers is partial host of the event, you do not necessary have to own a motorcycle or ATV to attend! Everyone is welcome to come!
For 2010 event, we decided to push the starting date back from Friday to Wednesday in hope that we can scretch the event longer than two days in the future by making it a tradition to start on Wednesday and end on Sunday morning. This is due to the fact that we had overwhelmed numbers of participating in each games with so little time to finish them.
For example, we had 37 signed up to play Horseshoe and 32 signed up to play Horse basketball. And another reason is because we have had several requests such as ATV riding, motorcycle riding, mini timber sport, and etc. We will plan to include all activities in the future as we continue to grow! We will experiment along as we continue to grow.
We have made some changes in activities removing Mechanical Bull riding and Madden video game tournament. We will offer two groups to go riding on friday. Group A- motorcycle riding on a planned route to be determined later and Group B- ATV owners
making a trip to ATV Off-Road Park at Busco Beach. BRING YOUR HELMET! It's the law! Or they will not let you ride! The fee is separated from the admission so you will need to bring your own fund to cover the expenses. For games, we will continue with Horseshoe tournament and
Horse basketball tournament, and we have added two new games for motorcycle and for ATV. |
